What Affects Your Moving Cost?
Eight variables control 95% of your final price. Understanding them helps you get a fair quote and avoid being overcharged.
🏠
Home / Office Size
The single biggest cost driver. More rooms = more items = more crew time, more packing material, larger vehicle. The difference between 1 BHK and 3 BHK is 2–3× the price.
📍
Route Distance
Local moves (within Gurgaon) are cheapest. Every crossing of a city boundary adds 12–18%. Intercity moves (100+ km) are 2.5–3× the local rate due to vehicle cost, toll, and overnight charges.
🏢
Floor & Lift Access
Without a lift, movers charge ₹300–₹500 per floor above ground for both pickup and drop. A 5th-floor no-lift move adds ₹1,600–₹2,000 in manual carry charges.
📦
Packing Service Level
Self-packing is cheapest. Partial packing (fragile items only) adds 8–10%. Full packing (all items) adds 15–20%. Full packing includes all materials and significantly reduces breakage risk.
❄️
Special Items
Split ACs require specialist dismantling (₹1,200 each). Cars need open/enclosed carriers. Pianos need dedicated equipment. Always declare all special items before accepting a quote.
📅
Moving Season
March–June (summer heat + school admissions) and October–November (festive season) are peak demand. Prices are 10–15% higher. July–September and December–February offer the best deals.
🔐
Insurance & Documentation
Transit insurance (0.5–1% of declared goods value) is optional but strongly recommended for valuable items. Companies registered under GST provide valid tax invoices — always ask for one.
🏷️
Company Type
Aggregator apps take 20–30% margins — the actual mover sees less and may cut corners. Operator-owned companies (like CratoShift) quote directly, with no middleman markup and consistent crew quality.
Hidden Charges to Watch Out For
Unscrupulous movers quote low to win the job, then inflate the final bill on move day. Here are the seven most common tricks:
-
Bait-and-switch quoting
A rock-bottom phone quote with no survey. The real price appears on move day when your goods are already loaded.
-
Per-carton packing charges
Verbal "free packing" that becomes ₹150–₹300 per carton on the invoice. Always get packing costs in writing.
-
Staircase surcharge added last minute
Floor access charges that were never mentioned in the quote. Ask explicitly: "What is the floor charge?" before booking.
-
"Insurance" with no actual policy
A fee labelled "transit insurance" that provides zero coverage. Ask for the actual insurance certificate with the policy number.
-
Octroi / entry tax charges
These do not apply in most NCR moves post-GST. Some companies still charge them as a line item.
-
Detention charges
If the crew waits more than 30–60 minutes because you are not ready, some companies charge ₹500–₹1,000/hr. Confirm the waiting policy upfront.
-
Goods held hostage
Extreme but real — movers demanding extra cash before unloading at the destination. Always pay 10–20% retention until goods are placed inside.
The CratoShift Difference
Zero-surprise pricing, in writing
Every CratoShift move starts with a free in-home survey. The price after the survey is the final price — no additions, no move-day shocks. You receive a written quote before paying any advance.
- Free in-home survey before any commitment
- Fixed price — survey quote = invoice total
- All floor, lift, and packing charges included upfront
- Real transit insurance with policy documentation
- GPS-tracked vehicle, WhatsApp updates throughout
- Operator-owned crew — same team, every time
10 Ways to Reduce Your Moving Cost
01
Move on a weekday
Tuesday–Thursday moves are 8–12% cheaper than weekends. Movers have lower demand and are more open to pricing flexibility.
02
Avoid month-end
The last 5 days of any month are the busiest (lease renewals). Move in the middle of the month to get better prices and crew availability.
03
Book off-peak season
July–September and December–February have 10–15% lower rates. If your timeline is flexible, these months can save thousands.
04
Self-pack non-fragile items
Pack books, clothes, and non-fragile items yourself. Let movers handle fragile and bulky items. Partial packing saves 8–12% of the packing charge.
05
Declutter before moving
Sell, donate, or discard items you do not need. Fewer items = smaller vehicle = lower cost. Moving a lighter 2 BHK can cost as little as a 1 BHK move.
06
Get at least 3 quotes
Always compare quotes from three verified companies. Use this calculator's estimate as the baseline to identify outliers.
07
Ask about back-load deals
If a mover is returning from your destination empty, they may offer heavily discounted rates (up to 40%). Ask specifically for "back-load" availability.
08
Bundle services strategically
Bundling packing + moving with one company is often cheaper than hiring separately. But compare before assuming — sometimes split hiring is cheaper.
09
Confirm lift access in advance
If your society charges for lift usage by movers, book it in advance. Some societies block freight-lift access on weekends, forcing manual carry and adding cost.
10
Pay by bank transfer
Some companies add 2–3% for card payments (UPI/credit card processing). Bank transfer or NEFT is often preferred and can be a minor negotiation point.
How This Calculator Works
This moving cost calculator is built on real 2025 Delhi NCR market rates collected from operational moves, industry surveys, and competitive analysis across Gurgaon, Delhi, Noida, and Faridabad corridors.
Base Rates
Each home size has a low (economy) and high (standard quality) base rate for a local move. Economy means basic packing, tempo, 2-crew team. Standard means professional packing, dedicated vehicle, 3-crew team with a supervisor.
Route Multiplier
Every crossing of a city boundary adds to the base. The multipliers (12% for Gurgaon–Delhi, 18% for Gurgaon–Noida) are derived from additional fuel, toll, permit, and empty-return-trip costs.
Floor Charges
When no lift is available, each floor above the ground level requires additional manual labour at both pickup and drop. The calculator applies ₹400 per floor at each location. Ground floor = 0 surcharge.
Packing Surcharge
Partial packing (fragile items only) adds 8% of the routed base. Full packing (all items, all materials) adds 15%. Self-packing adds nothing but shifts the breakage risk to the customer.
Seasonal Adjustment
Peak season (March–June, October–November) applies a +12% surcharge driven by demand. Off-peak (July–September, December–February) gives a -5% discount. Flexible timing has no adjustment.
Special Item Charges
Each special item has a fixed charge based on current Delhi NCR market rates. These are additive — two split ACs add 2× the per-unit charge. Special items do not interact with the route multiplier.
Important: This estimate is a market benchmark. Your exact price is confirmed after a free in-home survey. Factors like unusual staircase geometry, volume of goods beyond the norm for the BHK size, or specific building society rules may adjust the final price. Survey price is always the binding price.
FAQ
Moving Cost Calculator — Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about packers and movers charges, shifting costs, and how to get a fair price in Delhi NCR.
How much does it cost to move a 2 BHK in Gurgaon?
A 2 BHK home move within Gurgaon typically costs ₹8,500–₹14,000. This includes basic loading, transportation, and unloading. Floor access charges (₹400/floor without lift), packing services, and special items like ACs or a washing machine are added on top. Use the calculator above to get a number tuned to your exact situation.
What is included in packers and movers charges?
Standard packers and movers charges cover: disassembly of furniture, loading onto the vehicle, transportation, unloading, and basic reassembly. Packing materials (cartons, bubble wrap, stretch film) are either included or billed separately. Additional charges apply for floor access without a lift, ACs that need to be dismantled, vehicles (car/bike transport), and transit insurance.
Is this moving cost calculator free to use?
Yes — completely free with no email gate. Adjust any parameter and the estimate updates live. If you want a confirmed written quote (which locks in the price after a free survey), enter your name and number in the form on the right.
How accurate is the moving cost estimate?
The calculator uses real 2025 Delhi NCR market rates for labour, vehicle, and packing. It accounts for home size, route distance, floor access, packing level, special items, and peak-season surcharges. Estimates are typically within 10–15% of the final surveyed price. The actual price is confirmed after a free in-home survey.
What are the shifting charges for 1 BHK in Delhi to Gurgaon?
1 BHK shifting from Delhi to Gurgaon costs approximately ₹6,200–₹10,000 depending on floors, packing service, and any special items. The route surcharge for this corridor is around 12% over local Gurgaon rates. Use the calculator, select "1 BHK" and route "Gurgaon ↔ Delhi" for an instant estimate.
Do packers and movers charge extra for higher floors?
Yes. Without a lift, most companies charge ₹300–₹500 per floor above the ground floor for both pickup and drop. With a functional lift, there is usually no floor surcharge. Our calculator models ₹400 per floor (no lift) and zero when a lift is available at each location.
What is the moving cost for a 3 BHK in Gurgaon?
A 3 BHK local move in Gurgaon costs ₹13,000–₹20,000. For Gurgaon to Delhi it is ₹14,500–₹22,500. These figures assume standard furniture without special items. Add ₹1,200 per split AC and ₹600 for a washing machine for a more accurate number.
How much extra do packers and movers charge for ACs?
Dismantling and reinstalling a split AC typically costs ₹1,000–₹1,500 per unit (some companies include one unit in higher packages). Window ACs cost ₹700–₹1,000. The AC gas refill after installation is usually a separate charge of ₹800–₹1,500 paid to an HVAC technician, not the mover.
When is the cheapest time to hire packers and movers?
Off-peak months — July to September and December to February — are the cheapest. Avoid March to June (summer heat drives demand), October–November (festive season), and the last week of any month (lease renewal cycle). Mid-week moves (Tuesday–Thursday) are also cheaper than weekends.
How do I get an exact shifting quote without paying anything?
Enter your name and phone number in the calculator above. Our team calls within 15 minutes to understand the move details and schedules a free in-home survey at a time that suits you. The surveyed price is your final, fixed price — no additions on move day.
Is there a standard rate card for packers and movers?
India does not have a government-fixed rate card. Charges vary by company, city, season, and move complexity. However, the industry works on benchmarks: 1 BHK local ₹5,500–₹9,000; 2 BHK local ₹8,500–₹14,000; 3 BHK local ₹13,000–₹20,000. Our calculator applies these benchmarks adjusted for your specific variables.
What hidden charges should I watch out for?
Common hidden charges: (1) Staircase/manual carry charges added after booking — always ask. (2) Packing material billed per carton at move day. (3) "Transit insurance" that is actually just a fee with no actual policy. (4) Detention charges if you are not ready at the agreed time. (5) Re-delivery if the lift is occupied and manual carry is needed at destination. CratoShift charges are fixed after survey — zero move-day surprises.
Can I move just a few items (partial move)?
Yes. For small or partial moves — a few pieces of furniture or boxes from a single room — companies typically charge ₹2,500–₹5,000 for a tempo load within Gurgaon. The calculator is optimised for full home moves; for partial moves, contact us directly for a spot quote.
Does the estimate include GST?
Packers and movers services attract 18% GST in India. The calculator shows pre-GST market benchmarks. If you need a GST-inclusive invoice, add 18% on top. Informal / unregistered movers often quote without GST but cannot provide a valid tax invoice.
How much does office relocation cost in Gurgaon?
Small office moves (up to 10 workstations) in Gurgaon cost ₹12,000–₹20,000. Medium offices (10–30 seats) cost ₹22,000–₹40,000. Large offices (30+ seats or multiple cabins) cost ₹45,000–₹80,000+. Select "Office Move" in the calculator and pick your office size for a tailored estimate.
What is the cost of car transport by packers and movers?
Car transportation within Delhi NCR costs ₹4,000–₹7,000 for a hatchback or sedan using an open carrier. An enclosed carrier (for premium cars) costs ₹8,000–₹15,000. Long-distance car transport (e.g., Gurgaon to Mumbai) ranges ₹18,000–₹40,000. Add the car as a special item in the calculator above.
Do packers and movers provide transit insurance?
Reputable companies offer transit insurance — either bundled in the quote or as an add-on (typically 0.5–1% of declared goods value). Always ask for the actual insurance certificate, not just a verbal assurance. CratoShift provides documentation for all transit insurance purchased through us.
How long does a 2 BHK move typically take?
A 2 BHK local move (within Gurgaon) takes 6–9 hours from crew arrival to final placement. Intercity moves take 1–2 days including transit overnight. Time varies with floors, lift availability, quantity of goods, and distance. On-site survey gives you the most accurate time estimate.
Can I negotiate with packers and movers?
Yes — especially in off-peak months. You can typically negotiate 5–15% off the initial quote. Avoid companies that drop the price dramatically (from ₹15,000 to ₹6,000) — that almost always means hidden charges or cut-rate service. A 5–10% negotiation on a transparent quote is fair; a 40% drop is a red flag.
Why is the moving cost calculator important before hiring movers?
A cost calculator sets your negotiation baseline. Without a benchmark, customers accept whatever the first mover quotes. With a market-rate estimate in hand, you can verify quotes, ask the right questions, and avoid being overcharged. It also helps you budget accurately for your move well in advance.
