If you have asked three movers to quote for a 2 BHK move from Sector 48 to DLF Phase 5 and got figures from ₹9,000 to ₹22,000 for what sounds like the same job, you are in good company. The difference is not always about who is cheating you. Sometimes a low quote is low because things are left out that the higher one includes. Sometimes a high quote is margin, not service. This is how to read what you are actually being offered.
What a quote for a local 2 BHK should include
A properly quoted 2 BHK move within Gurgaon covers:
- packing materials: cartons, bubble wrap, tape, and wrapping for furniture;
- the crew’s labour for packing and loading;
- the vehicle and the transport;
- unloading at the new address;
- taking apart furniture that has to come apart to move, such as bed frames and wardrobes, and putting it back together.
A quote of around ₹9,000 for a short move between two Gurgaon sectors with easy access at both ends is plausible. A quote of ₹5,000 to ₹7,000 for the same move should make you ask what has been left out.
A quote of ₹22,000 for the same local 2 BHK has to justify itself. If it reflects a genuinely heavy home, difficult access or premium packing, the price may be fair. If it is the same service at double the price, the difference is the company’s margin, not your value.
Four charges often added on move day
Floor or staircase charges. A mover who quotes without asking which floor you are on, or whether there is a working lift, may add a per-floor charge when the crew finds you on the fifth floor of a walk-up. Stairs are genuinely more work, but that belongs in the quote, not on the bill afterwards.
Packing materials billed at actuals. Some companies quote for the service and bill cartons, tape and bubble wrap separately according to what was used. Ask before you confirm: are packing materials included in this price?
Waiting charges. If the move is delayed, for example by a slow society gate, some movers charge for the time the truck and crew spend waiting. Hourly waiting charges can add ₹1,500 to ₹3,000. Ask whether the quote includes a buffer and when waiting starts to be billed.
Reassembly. Taking furniture apart at pickup is almost always included, because the goods cannot be loaded otherwise. Putting it back together at the new home is sometimes treated as extra. If you have wardrobes, beds and a dining table, confirm reassembly is in the price.
Permits and insurance are not the same thing
A truck moving goods between states needs permits to operate legally. A permit is a regulatory document for the vehicle; it does not protect your goods. Transit insurance is a separate policy that covers the value of your goods against loss or damage on the way.
Some movers describe permits as “your goods are protected”, which leads people to think they are insured when they are not. Ask directly: is there a transit insurance policy on my goods, who is the insurer, what is covered and how do I claim? A genuine answer names the insurer and gives you a policy document. Insurance is usually optional and priced on the value you declare for your goods, so it should appear as its own line on the quote.
Reading a ₹9,000 quote against a ₹15,000 one
Take a 2 BHK move from Sushant Lok Phase 1 to DLF Phase 5, quoted at ₹9,000 by one company and ₹15,000 by another. Neither figure tells you anything until you know what sits behind it. Ask each company the same questions:
- How many people will come, and will they pack as well as load?
- What size of vehicle, and is it dedicated to my move or shared with another customer’s goods?
- Is everything going in one trip?
- Are packing materials, reassembly and waiting time included?
- Will you handle gate registration and lift booking at DLF Phase 5?
- Is the price fixed once agreed, whatever happens on the day?
If both answer the same way, the lower quote is the better deal. If the lower one leaves out packing materials, reassembly or the gate arrangements, or cannot say which vehicle is coming, the gap is real service. Either way, you are now comparing like with like.
How to make sure a price is fixed
Ask the mover to put the quote in writing, with a line saying the price is fixed and nothing will be added on move day beyond what is listed. A genuine company will do that. Confirm the agreed price by WhatsApp or email and ask for a written reply. If someone resists putting the price in writing, the price is not fixed.
The written confirmation should state the total price, what is included (packing materials, loading, transport, unloading, reassembly, and insurance if you are taking it), the vehicle type and the loading start time. If anything is missing, ask for it before your move date.
