Most people moving from Gurgaon to Bangalore have done a local move before. Few have done one of about 2,150 km through eight states. It differs in ways that are not obvious up front, and most of the stress people describe comes from not knowing what should be happening during the three to five days between their goods leaving Gurgaon and arriving in Bangalore. This is what the process looks like when it is run properly.
At booking: 7 to 10 days before
The first thing a genuine mover does after taking your details is survey your home. For an intercity move a video survey is normal if a visit is not practical: you walk the mover through the flat room by room and they note the volume and type of goods.
That matters because a quote without a survey is a range, not a price. The survey turns the range into a fixed figure that reflects your actual goods, anything that needs special packing (marble, large mirrors, musical instruments) and any access problems at either end. Get the final price in writing after the survey.
Give the mover your exact Bangalore address at booking too. If it is a managed society, the mover should get its move-in rules from the society office now, not on arrival.
Two to three days before: packing materials
Packing matters more for an intercity move than a local one, because your goods spend several days in a truck on the road. Intercity packing means corrugated board around furniture, bubble wrap on anything fragile, and stretch film to keep dust out over the distance.
If you want to pack clothes, books and other non-fragile things yourself, ask the mover to drop cartons two or three days ahead. Leave fragile items, electronics and furniture to the crew on packing day, so their condition is recorded and, if you take transit insurance, covered by it.
Packing and loading day
The crew wraps the furniture, double-packs fragile items and lists every item on an inventory. Before the truck is closed, check that inventory against your goods, with a short condition note against each item. Sign it only when it is accurate. It is the document any transit insurance claim will rely on.
Departure: early the next morning
The truck leaves Gurgaon between 5 and 7 AM, which gets it out of the NCR and moving south on NH-44 before the morning traffic builds. On a properly run move the truck is sealed after loading, and you get the driver’s number and, where the mover offers it, a GPS tracking link.
On the road: days 1 to 5
The route follows NH-44 south through Agra, Nagpur and Hyderabad into Bangalore. A goods truck is bound by speed limits and driver rest rules, and covers roughly 450 to 700 km a day. Agra, Nagpur and Hyderabad are the usual overnight halts. The truck does not drive through the night unless it has two drivers.
A daily check on position is reasonable. If neither the driver nor the office can tell you where the truck is, that is unusual and worth chasing.
Documents the truck carries
The tax checkposts that used to hold trucks at state borders were removed when GST came in, so there is no border paperwork stop to plan around. Trucks can still be stopped for a document check anywhere along the way, including at the transport checkposts some states keep, so the driver carries:
- the consignment note with your Gurgaon and Bangalore addresses,
- the packed inventory,
- the vehicle’s permits and registration,
- a declaration, signed by you, that the goods are your own used household effects and not for sale.
Used household goods moved by a family do not need an e-way bill. With those papers in order, a roadside check takes minutes. If your mover is handing the long-haul leg to someone else, ask who prepares these documents.
Delivery day in Bangalore: day 3 to 5
Delivery is usually three to five days after departure, depending on road conditions and the number of halts. You should get a call the day before with the arrival window.
Before the truck arrives, the Bangalore society’s requirements should be settled: gate registration, the service lift slot and any deposit. Your mover should have done this; if not, sort it yourself when they call about arrival.
If the truck was sealed, check the seal before it is broken, with you present. Unloading then follows the loading process in reverse: each item comes off against the inventory, and any damage is written down there and then. Do not sign the delivery receipt until you have been through everything against the loading inventory.
After delivery: if something is damaged
If you took transit insurance and something is damaged, the claim starts with the damage noted on the delivery receipt. Photograph everything clearly before moving the damaged item, and send the damage report to the mover and the insurer within 48 hours, because most transit policies have short notice periods. Keep the loading inventory and the delivery receipt until the claim is settled.
