Delhi to Gurgaon Moving Routes: Which Exit Works for Which Delhi Neighbourhood?

The route a loaded truck should take from each part of Delhi to each part of Gurgaon, and the pinch points that decide the departure time.

Which Delhi neighbourhood should take which route to which part of Gurgaon sounds simple. It is not, because the answer depends on both ends, and the wrong combination can turn a 40-minute drive into an 85-minute one. This guide sets out the routing we plan moves around, so you and your mover agree on it before move day.

Each neighbourhood has its own route page with the full timings; they are linked from our Delhi to Gurgaon moving page.

South Delhi: two roads into Gurgaon

South Delhi is the one part of the city with two good ways into Gurgaon, and the right one depends on where in Gurgaon you are going.

The Mehrauli–Gurgaon Road runs from Mehrauli straight into Gurgaon as MG Road, with no toll. It is the direct way from Saket, Vasant Kunj and Malviya Nagar to Old Gurgaon, Sushant Lok and DLF Phases 1 to 3: about 25 to 30 minutes from Vasant Kunj or Saket to Sectors 14 and 15 at 7 AM.

NH-48 via Mahipalpur is faster for Golf Course Road, DLF Phases 4 and 5, Sohna Road and New Gurgaon. From Vasant Kunj the truck reaches Mahipalpur in minutes; from Mahipalpur, most of central Gurgaon is 12 to 20 km.

From Greater Kailash and Green Park, the Outer Ring Road past Chirag Delhi leads to both. That stretch is clear early and adds 30 to 40 minutes after 9 AM, which is when the Mehrauli route is usually the better choice.

Central Delhi: the Ring Road to Dhaula Kuan

From Defence Colony, Lajpat Nagar and Sarojini Nagar, the route is west along the Ring Road to Dhaula Kuan, where it meets NH-48 heading for Gurgaon. From Defence Colony that is about 30 km to Cyber City, 33 km to Golf Course Road and 35 km to the Dwarka Expressway sectors.

Dhaula Kuan is the critical point. Early in the morning it is manageable; on weekdays from about 9 AM it is the most congested point on the corridor and adds 20 to 30 minutes. That is why departures from central Delhi are timed around it.

West Delhi: two routes for two parts of Gurgaon

Dwarka, Uttam Nagar, Janakpuri and Paschim Vihar all have two workable routes, and the choice depends on where in Gurgaon you are going.

For New Gurgaon and the sectors along the Dwarka Expressway, the Expressway is shorter and clearer. From Dwarka and Uttam Nagar it is the natural route: Uttam Nagar joins it through Palam Road and Dwarka Sectors 22 and 23, and Paschim Vihar by the Dwarka Link Road to Dwarka Sector 21. It avoids central Gurgaon entirely and brings you out close to your sector.

For DLF, Cyber City and Golf Course Road, Janakpuri goes by Palam and Mahipalpur to NH-48, about 28 to 35 km. Paschim Vihar takes the Ring Road to Dhaula Kuan and then NH-48, about 38 to 45 km.

North Delhi: the longest move in the NCR

From Rohini and Pitampura, the truck crosses almost the full width of Delhi: 45 to 65 km depending on the Rohini sector and the Gurgaon destination.

For DLF, Cyber City, Golf Course Road and Sohna Road, the route is the Outer Ring Road to Dhaula Kuan and then NH-48, about 50 to 60 km. For New Gurgaon, the Outer Ring Road to Dwarka Sector 21 and then the Dwarka Expressway, about 55 to 65 km, avoids Dhaula Kuan altogether.

Because so much of the trip is on Delhi’s busiest roads, North Delhi moves start earliest. A 6 AM loading start in Rohini is a direct consequence of the distance, not an arbitrary rule.

The wrong route and what it costs

The most common mistake is cutting through inner Delhi instead of using the Ring Road or the Expressway: through Karol Bagh and ITO, for example, or from East Delhi through Sarai Kale Khan on local roads. These roads do not have the capacity for a loaded truck in the morning, and the signals add up. Expect 20 to 45 minutes more than the Ring Road from almost any origin.

If your mover tells you which way the truck will go, ask why. If the route goes through inner Delhi when a ring road or expressway is available, question it. The route should be planned at booking, not worked out by the driver on the morning of your move.

What changes the route on the day

Even a well-planned route can need changing. An accident on NH-48 backs up traffic for kilometres, and heavy monsoon rain in July and August can flood underpasses on the Expressway and NH-48 for hours. The driver should know the alternative in either case. Ask your mover before move day which way they would go if NH-48 is blocked between Mahipalpur and Gurgaon. A mover who runs this corridor every week answers straight away.
